The Carolina Consumer Council an affiliate of the American Consumer Council was established in 1987, as a non-profit, consumer organization to educate and guide consumers in their purchase of safe, reliable products and services. They achieve their mission through financial education programs; communicating and engaging their members via newsletters, conferences, and web-based programs; and advocating on behalf of consumers to ensure their interests are protected and their quality of life is enhanced.



Charlotte Folk Society

The membership dues are; Student $20 Individual $35 Family $40 and Senior Individual $20 / Senior Couple $35

Members perform services to help inform the public, in particular local communities, of the traditions of American Folk heritage and share information through support by community members, sponsoring of performances and workshops in all traditional folk areas. These workshops provide educational material and resources, and generally encouraging a renewed enthusiasm and sensitivity for folk tradition. The association also organizes, manages, and presents cultural, educational and artistic programs, performances, exhibits, and festivals for the entertainment and profit of the public.


NAMI Charlotte (National Alliance on Mental Illness)

The membership dues are $35 and if an individual has mental illness it is $3.

REASONS TO JOIN: Services include education and awareness programs, providing job training and teaching life skills to the individuals and their families, and providing support groups for the challenges that are faced by those with mental illness and their families.  They seek to connect the families with additional resources and other support groups to assist them as they cope and function with mental illness.  In addition, they partner with Lens Crafters to purchase eyeglass vouchers, at a 50% discount, which are donated to individuals with mental illness.

Active Membership: $35.00 (Annual)

Active Membership is for any person age 50 and over. This membership includes use of the Senior Center, newsletters, the annual membership luncheon, and opportunities to participate in activities and classes at a reduced rate. (This does not include the use of the building for private events and/or functions.)

Sustaining Membership: $35.00 (Annual)

Sustaining Membership is available for any person between 18 – 49 years of age who pays the annual dues. This membership includes newsletters, the annual membership luncheon, and participation in activities at the senior center for up to four times per year. (This does not include the use of the building for private events and/or functions.)

Life Membership: $250.00 (Age 60+) & $125.00 (Age 70+)

Life Membership is a one (1) time fee and includes all benefits of an Active Membership.

Reasons to join:

Membership in SCA has many advantages. For a minimal fee per year, members have access to Senior Center Fitness Centers, monthly activities and classes geared toward seniors, and annual SCA member events. Additionally, members are helping to provide vital services to our local seniors in need including Meals on Wheels.

Community outreach includes: Meals on Wheels, Senior Fitness Center, Housekeeping & assistance with shopping, and other tasks on need basis or paid, Alzheimer’s Support Groups, Literacy classes and activities.  They also have 6 Group Dining Sites in the county to provide hot meals and social interaction for emotional, physical and mental health.
